OUR PEACE PLAN

  • What's the plan?
With Pope Francis's calling Fr. Bob Lombardo to become a Bishop, a very generous donor and friend of Bishop Bob stepped forward to support Anti-violence Work done by the Church.

Thus, Our Peace Plan was born.

Our Peace Plan is a challenge designed to spark creativity among the faithful. We welcome feedback from across the Archdiocese of Chicago on how we all might do this important work of the Church, and we particularly want to hear from the communities most impacted. It is Bishop Bob's hope that we might engage in new ways of doing ministry and improve the good work already done, as well as build community across Chicago.

For now this support will directly impact the communities of Vicariate III in the heart of Chicago. Our parishes stretch from Avondale in the North to Back of the Yards and Brighton Park in the South; from Austin in the West to the West and South Loop in the East.

Above all, we ask:

How is Christ calling you to be a peacemaker?

Our Timeline

Phase 1:  Core Committee Survey and Research:  Mid-February– March 15, 2021
Each parish should form a Parish Core Committee (PCC) of about 4-10 people to work on this project.  Initially, the job of the PCC will be to respond to a survey available through the website developed specifically for Our Peace Plan  In order to answer the questions, they will need to do research that will help identify the underlying causes of violence in their parish area and organizations already working to address the causes and other resources that could be helpful in addressing these issues.

Phase 2:  Vicariate III Core Committee (VCC) evaluates the Reports, organizes the information and provides an overall report on resources to the Parishes:  February 21 – April 1, 2021
We do not want to recreate the wheel.  We want to be efficient by analyzing the underlying causes and sharing information regarding solutions already being implemented in various parishes – solutions that may be used as models or expanded to help reduce violence.

Phase 3:  Launch Parish Survey:  March 15 – April 1, 2021
Now that we have a good start, we will open it up and get the input of all parishioners.  Each of God’s children is given talents and experiences for a specific purpose.  Let us listen and draw upon the insight and wisdom of those “in the trenches” – from the young to the elderly.  We want this to be “our” peace plan – not the plan of just a few.  A survey will be available to parishioners through the Our Peace Plan website.  Parishioners may respond there.  Written surveys can be mailed to parishioners who may not have computer skills or resources. These can then be mailed in or dropped off at your parish and scanned into the portal so that they can be accessed by the PCC.

Phase 4:  PCC Builds their Plan to Reduce Violence: April 1 – May 1, 2021
At this point, the PCC will convene to review and consider the information submitted by parishioners, identify one or two underlying causes of violence in their parish area, and build a plan that can be implemented to reduce it.

Phase 5:  Plans Submitted by Parishes and Evaluated by the VCC:  May 1 – June 1, 2021.
A $25,000 prize will be awarded to the best plan. Five $10,000 runner-up prizes will be awarded.

Phase 6:  Awards announced June 11, 2021, Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Note:
Given the pandemic and other circumstances, some adjustments may need to be made. We look forward to working with you to improve safety in our parishes and help our parishioners and all citizens live the life God intended for them - one of health, happiness, safety, and well-being. We ask the Holy Spirit to guide us through this project.
